Blissfully unaware. Logo design and pilfering.

Blissfully unaware. That’s what I’d like to call it. Not ignorant, not naïve, just unaware. I’ve been a designer for a lot of years and have had my work online since 2004, so I know the risks. Or, so I thought. It really wasn’t until the recent Logogarden.com debacle where I had 21 logo designs pinched, that this problem reared its ugly head. My work has been stolen – a lot.



Go with the flow or swim upstream?

There often comes a time in any type of project relationship that you decide, sometimes sub-consciously, what your role will be. Are you the leader, or the expert? Or are you the taskmaster, or even the worker bee? Sometimes there’s even a combination of roles.

Accepting your role is often difficult to grasp once it’s been established, especially if it’s not the role you wanted or started out with. You may be wondering, ‘How did I get here, and why did I let this happen?’

The logo designed for the Port of Long Beach’s Seaport Sustainability Symposium will be included in the upcoming LogoLounge 6 volume by Bill Gardner and Catharine Fishel, published by Rockport Publishers.

Just completed is this logo design and corporate identity project for TrinovaMed, a medical waste solutions company. The overall concept was to showcase their medical waste processing machine that virtually transforms ugly waste into something inert, biodegradable and eventually something beautiful.

What with so many logo inspiration sites popping up every week and some really wonderful logo design books out there, it’s hard to believe that this rather small, sub-culture of graphic design is becoming so popular.
